Introduction

Down the Nile is a relaxed water town with great history.  Aswan is about 425 miles away from Cairo’s hustle and bustle but it holds a significant place in history.  Heralded as the gateway to Africa by the ancient Egyptians, Aswan’s population is largely Nubian to this day. The granite that many of the obelisks of Egypt were made from was gathered in Aswan. Small enough to navigate by foot, Aswan offers access to the Temple of Philae, Elephantine Island, and the High Dam. Abu Simble is also easy to access from Aswan and it is a must-see on your Egypt tour.

Walk around town, enjoy a ride on a felucca, and tour the Nubian Museum to get a well-rounded view of the cultures present in the area.
