About Northern Enclosure
The approach to this area is through the Bab al-Qulla, built in the 16th century. In the vicinity is a Harem Palace that was built by Mohammed and has been converted to a National Military Museum with various relics from Egypt’s warfare history particularly from some of the battles and skirmishes with Israel.
There are also a couple of other museums around (among which is the carriage museum, a lackluster collection of Egyptian royal carriages) down a narrow road from the Northern enclosure. Another remarkable site in the area is Suleiman Pasah’s mosque built in 1528, a classic mosque designed after the Ottoman pattern.
