Saint Catherine Mountain {Jebel Katherine}
Saint Catherine Mountain
This is one of the highest mountains in Egypt being more than 8500 meters above sea level. The legend says that when the angles brought the body of the murdered Saint Catherine in the 4th century, they placed on this high mountain.
Visitors who climb to the top of the mountain can view the Suez Gulf to the West and the Aqaba Gulf to the East especially when the weather is clear.
Away from these glorious mountains, the region of Saint Catherine was declared as a protected area during the past decades.
With a surface area of more than 4300 square, the protected area offers wonderful ambience for picnics and safari trips to view the rare animals, birds, and plants which exist in that region.
