Ancient Echoes: Catacomb, Pompey’s Pillar & Museum Day Tour: Tour Plan

Departure from Cairo Our excursion begins with a departure from Cairo, as we embark on a 2-hour drive to the historic city of Alexandria.

Catacombs of Kom El Shuqafa Upon arriving in Alexandria, our first destination is the Catacombs of Kom El Shuqafa, Egypt’s most significant Greco-Roman necropolis. This fascinating site merges ancient Egyptian burial customs with Greco-Roman art, offering a unique glimpse into the cultural blend that defines this region.

Pompey’s Pillar Next, we visit Pompey’s Pillar, a monumental column standing as the last relic of the once grand Temple of Serapeum. Built in the 2nd century, the pillar, alongside two sphinxes, marks the prominence of this ancient temple, which has otherwise vanished into history.

Greco-Roman Museum Continuing our tour, we head to the Greco-Roman Museum, founded in the late 19th century by Khedive Abbas II. This museum houses an extensive collection of artifacts that chronicle Alexandria’s rich history, from its ancient foundations to its Greco-Roman heyday.

Roman Amphitheater Our final stop is the Roman Amphitheater, the only venue of its kind in Egypt. Dating back to the 2nd century, this well-preserved amphitheater features thirteen tiers of marble seating, originally designed to host a large audience for various spectacles.

Return to Cairo Concluding our enriching day in Alexandria, we will transport our guests back to the meeting point in Cairo, carrying with them memories of a day steeped in the profound history and architectural grandeur of ancient civilizations.
