Transportation Guide to Port Said

Reaching Port Said, a key city in northeast Egypt, is quite straightforward, with various transportation options available. Here’s a guide to help you navigate your way to and around Port Said:

  1. Boat Travel
    • Ferry services to Port Said from Limassol (Cyprus) and Lattakia (Syria) were suspended in 2011 but were expected to resume by the end of 2019.
    • These routes offer an alternative way to reach Port Said, especially for those traveling from these coastal cities.
  2. Bus Services
    • The main bus station is located about 3 km from the town center, accessible via taxi for around E£25.
    • Super Jet: Offers bi-hourly buses to Cairo (E£125, four hours) and a daily bus to Alexandria (E£130, four hours) at 4.30pm. Advance booking is advisable.
    • East Delta Travel Co: Provides hourly buses to Cairo (E£125, four hours) and multiple daily buses to Alexandria (E£165, four to five hours). Also offers buses to Ismailia and Suez at various times.
  3. Servees (Service Taxis)
    • Located next to the train station, servees are a convenient option for travel to Cairo (E£120), Ismailia (E£80), and Suez (E£100).
  4. Train Travel
    • Trains to Cairo (2nd-/1st-class, E£80/140, five hours), via Ismailia (E£55/90, two hours), run at specific times throughout the day.
    • An additional 2nd-class only service is available at 7.30pm.
    • Trains can experience delays, and buses are generally quicker and more comfortable.

In summary, reaching Port Said is convenient with multiple transport options including buses, servees, and trains. Whether you prefer the scenic route by boat (subject to service availability), the efficiency of buses, or the classic train journey, Port Said is well-connected to major cities in Egypt, making it an accessible destination for travelers.
