Travel To Luxor

Getting to Luxor

By Air – EgyptAir

Flying is the fastest and most convenient way to reach Luxor. EgyptAir operates several daily flights between Cairo and Luxor, with prices starting at approximately $119 one-way and $188 round-trip. The flight takes about 1 hour and is ideal if you’re short on time or prefer to avoid lengthy land travel. You can book directly on EgyptAir’s official website, and the airline’s local Luxor office is located on Corniche an-Nil.

By Bus

Go Bus offers a popular and budget-friendly option for travellers, with multiple daily departures from Cairo to Luxor. Ticket prices range from $10 to $18 depending on class (e.g., Deluxe Plus, Elite DD). The journey takes around 10 hours, and tickets can be booked in advance via go-bus.com.

Super Jet also operates overnight buses departing around 11:10 PM from Cairo (typically Adly Mansour Station) and arriving in Luxor around 9:10 AM. Fares are usually around $14. You can book through platforms like CheckMyBus or purchase directly at the terminal.

By Train

Watania Sleeping Train is a classic overnight rail option that combines comfort with a touch of nostalgia. Trains depart Cairo at 7:15 PM and 10:30 PM and arrive in Luxor early the next morning. Each private cabin includes dinner and breakfast. Prices are $130 for a single cabin and $90 per person for a double. Booking is available through travel agencies such as Min Travel Egypt.

Day Trains are also available for travellers preferring to see the countryside by daylight. For example, Train 981 departs Cairo at 8:25 AM and arrives in Luxor after roughly 10 hours. Tickets vary by class and can be purchased at the station; however, it’s advisable to buy in advance to avoid an onboard surcharge (usually around $5).

By Felucca

Travelling by felucca is a scenic, adventurous, and entirely unhurried way to approach Luxor. Most felucca journeys begin in Esna (approximately 55 km south of Luxor) due to navigation limits at the Esna Lock. Trips typically take several days, involve camping on deck under the stars, and are suited for slow-travel enthusiasts who value authenticity over speed.

Conclusion

Getting to Luxor has never been more flexible or affordable. If you’re short on time, flying is the most efficient option. Trains, especially the Watania sleeper, offer comfort and a sense of classic travel. Buses cater to budget-conscious travellers, while feluccas provide an unforgettable, slow-paced river adventure. Microbuses and taxis also operate between nearby cities, but these are best reserved for local or spontaneous travel.

Whichever route you choose, plan ahead—especially during peak seasons—and enjoy the journey. Egypt’s ancient capital of Luxor awaits you with timeless treasures and unforgettable memories.
