No other nation in the world says ‘Welcome’ as often as the Egyptians, and every time, they mean it. While the ancient civilization of Egypt continues to amaze, contemporary Egyptians are equally remarkable.

The Museum of Islamic Art in Cairo: A Treasure Trove of History and Beauty
Nestled a mere 500 meters west of the historic Bab Zuweila, the Museum of Islamic Art in Cairo stands as a testament to the splendor and diversity of Islamic artistry. Recently refurbished, this museum boasts a staggering collection of over 80,000 objects and artifacts, making it one of the most comprehensive and beautiful arrays of Islamic art in the world. While only a portion of this vast collection is on display, the curated selection is nothing short of mesmerizing.
Visitors may note that most of the inscriptions and labels are in Arabic, with limited English translations. However, this does not detract from the allure and beauty of the exhibits. The museum showcases a wide array of items, from ceramics and frescoes to intricate mosaic paintings, representing various periods and dynasties.
One of the museum’s unique aspects is its collection of figurative works, transcending the boundaries of Islamic art. A notable piece is an Ayyubid silver bowl intricately carved with an image of the Virgin Mary holding Christ post-crucifixion. The artifacts are thoughtfully organized based on their usage and historical significance, offering a coherent journey through the evolution of Islamic art.
Located strategically in the heart of Cairo, the museum is easily accessible, lying northwest of Midan Ataba (approximately 700 meters away) and west of Midan Tahrir (roughly 1.6 kilometers along Sharia Sami al-Barudi). The journey to the museum also brings visitors close to the Mohammed Naguib metro station, making it a convenient destination for both locals and tourists seeking to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of Islamic art and history.
